TPC to Celebrate Historic Birthday

According to historical records, our congregation was founded on October 19, 1884.  Session minutes record a meeting held on that day to establish a congregation in this neighborhood.  That means that on October 19, 2009, our congregation marked 125 years of ministry.  This is something to celebrate!  We are planning a year of 125th anniversary events that began on Sunday, October 18, 2009.  Festivities will include Music and Worship, Fellowship Activities, Community Outreach, Education, Art, Concerts, History and More!

We began our year of celebration on Sunday, October 18, with a choral Evensong and a "Kirkin' o' the Tartans."  On Sunday, November 1, All Saints' Day, our morning worship honored the thousands of saints who have been a part of TPC from 1884 until the present.  On that day, TPC planted a tree in Peppertree Park in their honor and as a sign of hope and trust for future TPC saints.  This was followed by our Advent and Christmas celebrations, including a Christmas Choral Concert on December 13, a winter concert entitled Festival Music for Organ, Brass, and Timpani on January 17, a Lenten Choral Evensong on February 21, and a concert by Luminaria, the women's chorus from Vanguard University, directed by our soprano soloist and section leader, Dr. Joni Prado, on March 7.  Helen Boggs and Leslie Benjamin are also undertaking an oral history project.  They will be calling on members of our church to hear their stories, memories and dreams for the church.

An all-church picnic is being planned on Sunday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to conclude the anniversary year.  Plan now to join us for this event.

Remember, a whole year of music, learning, stories, fellowship and celebration are in the works.  Stay tuned for further news!

All Church Picnic

The TPC 125th Anniversary Committee invites you to attend an all-church picnic at Peppertree Park on Sunday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  We will have the picnic catered, and the price per adult is $5, with a maximum per family of $10.  Please see Ruth Schweitzer after the worship services to make your reservation.  You can choose chicken or a hamburger for your entrée.  We hope you’ll plan to attend and invite your friends and family.

Also, while you’re at the park, stop by and check out the tree that was planted last October.  It now has a plaque that was donated by the Hegwoods.
