Origins Today: Genesis through Ancient Eyes

Sundays, January 7, January 14, and January 21

11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Lounge

Speaker: Dr. Bill Roundy

Our Adult Education Program will kick off the New Year with a discussion of “Origins Today: Genesis through Ancient Eyes” using the materials developed by Dr. John Walton, professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College.  During his presentation, Dr. Walton draws on his depth of knowledge of the world-view of ancient near-east civilizations. He explains the symbolism of the Garden of Eden and what the creation story would have meant to the ancient peoples who first heard it.  We WILL NOT be using the course to promote or justify any particular view of origins — young earth, progressive creation, intelligent design, evolution, etc.

This course will use a video/discussion format.  It will be facilitated by Dr. Bill Roundy, retired Chemistry professor from Orange Coast College. Dr. Roundy’s spiritual and intellectual journey has led him to explore the interaction of faith and science.  He and his wife Giny are members of the American Scientific Affiliation, an organization of Christians who are also scientists.

We welcome all curious persons, high-school through adult.  We invite you to join us in exploring Genesis through ancient eyes.
