Christmas Love Celebrated at Market

On December 4, 2016, the Mission Committee sponsored the Keeping CHRISTmas Market, TPC’s annual opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ by reaching out to those in need.  The congregation responded generously!  Together, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, and Family Promise collected $3,931 in donations. Laurel House received several gifts that morning, with more delivered in the days following.  Family Promise received a number of gift cards in addition to its cash contributions.  A special highlight of the 2016 Market was the participation of the TPC Youth, who studied each of these ministries and used their mission project funds to make contributions.  Third World Gifts and Handarts reported $1,127 in sales. Gifts to the TPC Giving Tree, which were collected at the Market, were estimated at $3,500 – $4,000, with special thanks to the Deacons for their gracious support.  The Market was made possible by our wonderful volunteers: Cathy Barnes, Helen Boggs, Antonella Cardenas, Mariann Cardenas, Laurie Cussalli, Charles Cussalli, Bill Groves, Elizabeth Heiskell, Ken Lovejoy, Sandi Lovejoy, Judy Merker, Jere Murphy, Sheryl Ocampo, Lynn Petersen, Patty Sanchez, and Russell Schmalenberger.

Thank You, Lori!

Many thanks to Lori Ruff-Schmalenberger for organizing both our Giving Tree and our Keeping CHRISTmas Market this year.  Lori has volunteered to take on these responsibilities for more years than we can remember.  She does a fabulous job, and this year was no exception!  Lori has the heartfelt gratitude of the Mission Committee and of all those who benefit directly from these events.  Please take a minute to thank her when you see her.

TPC Giving Tree

On the Sundays in November we will be taking sign-ups and distributing bags for this year's TPC Giving Tree benefiting 54 children and 22 families identified by the City of Tustin. There are two ways to participate:

  • Fill a gift bag for a boy or girl on our list with a small present and a $25 gift certificate for clothing or shoes.

  • Fill a grocery bag with food and Christmas cheer. We'll provide the shopping list for you — the approximate value is $40–$45.  Two grocery bags will be combined to make up one Christmas box for each family of the children on our list.

Too busy to shop? Just bring a check for $40–$45 made out to Tustin Presbyterian Church, and the TPC Shopper will do the work for you!  We will continue to distribute names and bags on Sundays until all children and families have been sponsored.  Filled grocery and gift bags will be collected in the Fireside Lounge on Sunday, December 4, the day of our Keeping CHRISTmas Market.
