DO YOU KNOW...
WHAT THE MISSION COMMITTEE IS?
WHAT IT DOES?
HOW YOU CAN HELP?
What is the Mission Committee?
The Mission Committee (MC) is a group of persons, each with unique gifts, united in the desire and determination to help people in need, worldwide. The MC consists of both members of the session and additional members from the congregation-at-large (no limit). Both "marathon runners" and "sprinters" are needed to accomplish the goals of the MC.
What does the Mission Committee do?
The Mission Committee, in a sense, leads all of us out through the church doors into our community and the greater world. Lending support with heart, hands, and money, one compelling goal is to find and serve the needy. The committee employs a number of methods to fulfill this goal, including the following items.
Community Mission Projects
Each year a number of community mission projects are selected, projects/organizations that seem to call for TPC’s response. These are funded by the MC budget, separate from TPC’s operating budget. Examples of these projects include Habitat for Humanity, Laurel House, and Santa Ana Hispanic Ministries. Please review the list of the current community mission projects and give them your prayers and support.
Publicity is given to the four special yearly offerings received by the PC(USA), namely, One Great Hour of Sharing, Peacemaking, the Pentecost Offering and Christmas Joy. Letters and special offering envelopes are sent to the congregation. Children are given coin boxes for their offerings, thus helping them to learn the importance of giving directly to help children and adults throughout the world.
TPC liaisons to community mission projects are created and maintained. Liaisons keep their fingers on the pulses of organizations and relay information to the MC and the congregation.
The MC publicizes Mission-related organizations and activities via bulletins, Parish Press, Moments for Mission, church display cases, the kiosk, and the TPC website.
