Becoming a Matthew 25 Church

Date:  Sundays, September 22, September 29, October 6, and October 13

Time and Place: 11:00 a.m., in the Fireside Lounge

Speaker: Lori Ruff-Schmalenberger

Matthew 25:31–46 calls all of us to actively engage in the world around us so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities.  Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.

On April 1, the PC(USA) launched the Matthew 25 Invitation, calling Presbyterian congregations and Mid Councils to come together and help the PC(USA) become a more relevant presence in the world by embracing one or more of its three foci.  This course will explore the message of Matthew 25 and the three focus areas:

  • Session 1, September 22 — What Does Matthew 25 Say?: A Bible Study
  • Session 2, September 29 — Dismantling Structural Racism
  • Session 3, October 6 — Eradicating Systemic Poverty
  • Session 4, October 13 — Building Congregational Vitality
